Dec 20, 2020 · Today a 1990 Mercedes burned down at my place yard.It sat already outside for some time so i put a battery in to put it inside .I had to go for some time and while i was gone it burned down .No contact keys in it or nothing was on .Luckily it was still outside and no other vehicles around it .My lesson : Always disconnect the battery when the car is inside .

I didnt do any damage to electronics I left the battery hooked up. same with my 94 F-350 460 I welded a front bumper on it with every thing hooked up and right now iam in the process of repairing the dump bed on it and i have about 10 hrs in welding on it so far and nothings wrong.
Apr 15, 2008 · Do it, I've got a brand new MSD box that doesn't work and I'm pretty sure it's because I did some welding on the chassis without disconnecting it. I don't know for sure that it wasn't junk right out of the box but, heck it says in the instructions to disconnect it when welding, I didn't, it doesn't work. 2+2=4.
Disconnecting the power can actually lead to an increased chance of damage. A chip that is powered up is better able to survive a static hit. Unpowered chips are much more likely to be damaged by static or random voltages. If you are worried about the computer the best thing you can do is disconnect the computer before welding.
